At What Temperature Should Each Type of Wine Be Served?

A qué temperatura tiene que servirse cada tipo de vino

Do you know the ideal temperature for serving each type of wine to enjoy all its qualities, at what temperature should each type of wine be served? Are you aware of what happens when this crucial detail is overlooked?

The Right Temperature for Each Wine

Every wine has unique characteristics that must always be considered, especially when it comes to storage and tasting. These traits can easily be altered if not treated correctly. Think of wine as a delicate instrument—if not tuned (or served) properly, it won’t hit the right notes.

That’s why sometimes a wine might taste strange or even unpleasant—it’s likely not being served at the temperature recommended by the winery, or something may have happened between the bottle being opened and poured.

Here are a few important points to keep in mind:

  • Room temperature changes depending on the season—what’s “room temp” in summer is very different from winter, so this guidance becomes unreliable on its own.
  • Overcooling is just as bad as serving it warm. Many make the mistake of putting the bottle in the freezer hours before serving. This is a big no-no, as it causes a thermal shock. Instead, place the bottle in an ice bucket filled with water and ice right before serving. The freezer should be avoided whenever possible—it’s like subjecting your wine to a polar plunge it didn’t ask for.

Temperature and Wine: What You Need to Know

At WINERYON, we understand how crucial these details are—especially in the summer months when heat can undo months of careful work. That’s why we’ve put together this guide with essential tips on the right serving temperature for each type of wine, so our friends and followers can enjoy every bottle of DEMUERTE wine in perfect condition.

Wine Temperature Guide 1: White Wines

The ideal serving temperature for white wines is between 6°C and 10°C.
Due to their typically acidic or sweet profiles, they’re best served chilled. If it’s a barrel-aged white (crianza), aim for a slightly warmer range, between 10°C and 12°C, since complexity increases with age.

For our DEMUERTE WHITE, we recommend a serving temperature of 8°C to 10°C. This allows its fresh acidity, creamy texture, and long finish with notes of white fruit and herbs to shine through.

Wine Temperature Guide 2: Rosé Wines

Rosés should generally be served between 6°C and 10°C, much like white wines, due to their similar freshness and lighter profiles.

Our DEMUERTE ROSÉ is best enjoyed between 8°C and 10°C, where its delicate floral and herbal aromas, intense strawberry and cherry notes, fresh fruitiness, and rounded acidity are at their most expressive.

Wine Temperature Guide 3: Red Wines

Here things get more nuanced—it depends on the wine’s age and type. However, red wines should never be served below 10°C, unless we’re talking about very light, young reds.

  • Young reds: Serve between 10°C and 16°C
  • Crianza reds: Best between 14°C and 18°C, as they need more warmth to release their full aromatic profile.
  • Reserva or Gran Reserva: Aim for 16°C to 18°C, since their structure and complexity thrive at higher temperatures.

For our red wines:

  • DEMUERTE BLACK, DELUXE, GOLD, and CLASSIC: Serve between 16°C and 18°C
  • DEMUERTE ONE: Between 14°C and 18°C, depending on preference and the setting.

Think of serving temperature like setting the stage for a play—the right lighting and mood (temperature) lets the wine perform at its best.

Wine Temperature Guide 4: Sweet Wines

Sweet wines are best served between 6°C and 12°C. This range helps to balance and control the perception of sugar, so the wine doesn’t feel cloying.

Wine Temperature Guide 5: Sparkling Wines

These need to be the coolest of all—serve between 5°C and 10°C.
This range enhances the freshness of the bubbles and balances the sweetness. Imagine sparkling wine as a refreshing splash—it should feel crisp and lively, never warm or heavy.
