Tips for Drinking Wine This Summer

Consejos para beber vino este verano

If you want to drink and enjoy wine this summer, follow these tips. These guidelines will help you choose the best wine for the season and get the most out of every bottle you purchase, so the heat doesn’t affect its contents in the slightest.

Tips for Drinking Wine This Summer

Drinking wine in summer isn’t always straightforward. The high temperatures reached during July and August in our country can negatively impact wines, making the experience less enjoyable than expected. Additionally, some wines pair better with summer dishes than others, which are more suited to colder weather cuisine.
To help you choose correctly, at WINERYON we have put together a list of tips that will help you create the right conditions for your wine to shine as it should.

Tip 1: Pay Attention to the Wine’s Temperature

Because it’s very hot, it’s advisable to adjust the wine’s temperature to suit the outside heat. Therefore, it’s best to serve wine chilled. This is how it best complements typical summer dishes, which often include dressings, salads, light cured meats, and so on.
To maintain the wine bottle’s temperature at the table, the best option is to use an ice jacket to insulate the liquid from the external temperature.

Tip 2: Choose Light and Fresh Wines

Since it’s warm and what we mainly seek when drinking wine is refreshment, it’s best to select light wines. Wines such as DEMUERTE WHITE or DEMUERTE ROSÉ, which are white and rosé examples from our DEMUERTE range, add character to summer lunches and dinners.
If you prefer red wine, it’s better to go for young reds. However, always chill them (a little more than the label suggests if the outside heat is extreme). It’s also advisable to decant them to ensure proper aeration.

Tip 3: Pay Attention to Acidity

In summer, acidity is key to enjoying a glass of wine properly. Before choosing a bottle, pay attention to the level of acidity (usually higher in whites and rosés) as these will refresh you the most. You should also consider the type of food you’ll be pairing with the wine. Each wine pairs with or enhances the flavour of certain foods — this is called pairing. It’s not the same to accompany meat as it is fish; seafood as it is cured meats.

Tip 4: Lower Alcohol Content

Summer wines should have a low alcohol content, otherwise the alcohol will dominate every sip. Also, keep in mind that alcohol dehydrates, so during hot weather when we sweat a lot, it’s best to avoid adding to that effect.
At WINERYON, we recommend drinking a glass of water alongside each sip of wine to prevent dehydration.

Tip 5: Quality Wines

Remember, even if they are white, rosé or even sparkling wines, quality remains important. On the contrary, in summer we should continue demanding quality in every glass of wine we buy or serve. This way, we benefit from the light wine’s components and keep taking care of our health by drinking in moderation. Just because they are light wines doesn’t mean they are lesser wines.

DEMUERTE, the Best Wine Choice for Summer

Our DEMUERTE range is designed to meet your needs no matter the season. In the case of DEMUERTE WHITE, it stands out as a striking and innovative wine, fresh and intensely aromatic. It has a pale straw-yellow colour, with aromas of fruits and white flowers. The wine is fresh and acidic, light yet smooth, with a long finish featuring notes of white fruit and herbs.
For DEMUERTE ROSÉ, it is a wine with a Provençal pink hue, clear and bright with salmon reflections. It offers delicate floral and herbaceous aromas, with delicious intense notes of strawberry and cherry. A fresh, fruity wine, rounded with good acidity and a long, flavoursome finish.
Both are ideal companions for your summer meals.
